The Munchkin cat breed is hailed as the shortest cat breed worldwide. The reason behind the Munchkins’ rather diminutive height is a genetic mutation that causes their legs to grow to such a short stature that ranges around 9 inches. As a matter of fact, the record for the shortest cat is held by a Munchkin at 5.25 inches.
Despite their rather unique features, the Munchkins raise quite a few debates in the cat lovers’ world about whether they should be considered a separate breed or not, and whether it is ethical to allow this breed to be continued. Nonetheless, the Munchkin cat is acknowledged by the TICA as a breed.
